The Energy Industry: From Naked Gun 2 ½ till now.

I recently watched the classic comedy movie “The Naked Gun  2½: The Smell of Fear” starring the late great comic genius  Leslie Nielsen and something stood out. For those of you who have not seen it (you really should)  the plot is rather simple.

President George H. W. Bush announces that America’s future energy policy will be based on the recommendations made by Dr. Albert Meinheimer who is a renewable energy advocate. This sends the heads of the energy industry into a right panic so they decide to kidnap the doctor and replace him with a double.

What struck me was the fact that the possibility of a renewable energy future put the fear of God into Big Oil as well as Big Coal and Big Nuclear and looking back at the time it would not be hard to discover why.
