Electricity is one of the most pressing issues currently being faced by Pakistan. Consistent shortages and prolonged power outages in the last six years have had an adverse impact on the country’s already hampered economy. Interestingly it is not the industry that is bearing the brunt of this; it is the home users who are literally feeling the heat in Pakistan. 14 to 18 hour power outages are common in cities while rural areas deal with up to 20 hours of power outages.  This has led to multiple strikes and protest rallies that have often ended violently. In essence, the electricity issue is currently the lynchpin to almost all non-security issues that Pakistan faces. Acknowledging the situation Government of Pakistan and Provincial Governments have been discussing multiple ways in order to fix this crisis which is essentially bad energy mix management over a prolonged period of time.
