DOTHAN, Ala. — It was a day filled with wonder and excitement. Wide-eyed youngsters inspected the controls of a helicopter, looked around in an ambulance and toured the inside of a Homeland Security vehicle. These were just some of the more than 30 vehicles that were on display during Landmark Park’s second annual Touch a Truck program, which was held Saturday on the grounds surrounding the park’s Stokes Activity Barn.
The four-hour event carried two major themes – safety around heavy equipment and vehicles and education. Each vehicle on display had an attendant standing by to explain how the vehicle or equipment is used and, just as important, how to operate them safely.
For Brandon Hurst, operations manager for Martin Environmental Services, the day provided the opportunity to share some environmental tips with his young visitors.
